Since the tanker collisions in the Kerch Strait in December 2024, divers have collected 440 tons of oil-contaminated soil from the bottom of the Black Sea in the coastal zones of Anapa and Temryuk. This was reported during a government commission meeting by Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev.

The operation to remove the oil involves six vessels and eight ejector installations. In the coming days, the group of divers will be expanded to over 110 people.

Studies conducted in the Black Sea have shown no deviations in the condition of aquatic biota. The quality of the caught fish and seafood meets current standards. Fishing is proceeding as usual. Fish and seafood are being caught far from the areas contaminated with oil. No traces of oil have been found in the fishing areas or on the equipment used for catching fish.

The Federal Agency for Fisheries (Rosrybolovstvo) has noted that there have been no complaints or reports of any negative impact on fishing from the oil spill in the Black Sea.

It was also previously reported that Rosprirodnadzor, the Russian environmental agency, has issued a fine of nearly 85 billion rubles to the owners of the tankers that sank in the Kerch Strait in December 2024.
