Regions Ranked by Quality of Life.
Experts from RIA Novosti have compiled the latest ranking of regions based on the quality of life for the year 2023. The ranking was formed based on a comprehensive assessment of 66 indicators that evaluate the actual state of various aspects of living conditions and the social situation.
The leaders of the ranking have remained stable for several years:
- Moscow
- Petersburg
- Moscow Region
The top ten also includes Krasnodar Krai, the Republic of Tatarstan, Leningrad Region, Kaliningrad Region, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Yugra, Rostov Region, and Samara Region.
The rankings present an averaged picture. While there are examples of top managers earning more in smaller cities than in Moscow, it’s undeniable that Moscow and St. Petersburg offer more opportunities. However, with the development of remote work, there are fewer objective obstacles to a successful career, and the correlation between the place of residence and success is weakening. Additionally, good specialists earn above-average salaries everywhere.
Compared to the previous year, the composition of the top ten has remained largely unchanged. Rostov Region entered the top ten, rising from 15th place in the 2022 ranking to 9th place. Belgorod Region left the top ten, dropping from 6th to 11th place.
Notably, the top of the ranking is dominated by megacities and large cities.
“Obviously, a person born in Moscow and a person who moved from a province to a megacity perceive the rhythm of life differently. The rhythm of a megacity tempers and teaches you to live faster, accomplishing much more in a unit of time. There is a significant element of truth in the saying that a day in Moscow is comparable to three days in the province in terms of intensity,” explains the expert.
Here are some useful tips from Maxim Kondakov for residents of megacities and large cities:
- Try to reduce commuting time to and from work. Sometimes it’s worth giving up a car in favor of public transport.
- Your productivity at work and in life starts with physical tone. Pay attention to physical activity outside of work: workouts enhance your productivity, mood, and resilience. Also, consider massage, sauna, and outdoor walks.
- Find time for yourself – engage in hobbies.
“For people moving from a quiet town to the capital, I would advise them to think about ways to maintain the level of comfort they are used to in their city. After a month or two of commuting across the entire city from home to work with an attractive salary, you might suddenly realize that salary is not everything,” adds the expert.
