Russian motorists may soon face fines of up to 15,000 roubles for using so-called “Iranian tint” — a retractable window film that has gained popularity as a workaround to existing restrictions on tinted front windows.

Unlike traditional fabric curtains or fixed dark film, which are banned on front side windows, the “Iranian” version can be quickly rolled away if traffic police are nearby. The product is widely available on online marketplaces and is considerably cheaper than professional tinting.

The National Automobile Union has proposed a complete ban on such devices and is urging lawmakers to introduce strict penalties to deter their use.
