The Ministry of Education has prepared an extensive list of updates to school programs
The Ministry of Education has published a large project outlining changes to federal programs for general and secondary education. Students will be introduced to new subjects, and new modules will be added to existing subjects.
New Physical Education: Rope Climbing, Golf, and Biathlon
One of the most significant packages of changes has been made to the physical education program. It is planned to introduce classes in golf, biathlon, roller and cheer sports, as well as add a module on tug-of-war.
Most of these innovations will be added at the discretion of the school. It is expected that in addition to acquiring new sports skills, children will learn the basics of self-discipline, sports etiquette, teamwork, and equipment handling.
New “Society”: Cybersecurity, Fake News, and Disinformation
In social studies, a separate block called “Public Communications” is planned to be added. Students will learn to handle personal data carefully, learn about the legal aspects of esports and computer games, and also learn to recognize fake news and disinformation on the Internet. This program is intended for study in the 9th grade.
11th graders will learn about family values and traditions of the peoples of Russia, countering extremism and nationalism, as well as explaining the basics of legal protection of the country’s interests at the international level.
New Labor: Cutting, Repair, and Construction
A course on processing textile materials will be added to labor (or technology) lessons – this includes cutting details according to ready-made and own templates, as well as sewing and repairing fabric items. Students will be shown how to work with various solid materials – plastic, wood, and even metal. They will also learn to design and model their own simple products.
It is expected that a separate block will be dedicated to “Robotics,” available for both boys and girls.
New History: Falsifications and Historical Truth
Blocks on special operations and recent historical events have not been added to the school history course. However, instead, children will be taught to identify attempts at falsification in historical information and defend historical truth using knowledge of Russia and foreign countries.
Bonus: Languages and Culture of Indigenous Peoples
It is expected that sections on oral folk art, medieval and contemporary literature will be added to the curriculum. Special attention will be paid to the native languages of various peoples living in the territory of Russia – these include Chukchi, Erzya, Avar, and others.
Along with languages, children will study the traditional way of life, values, and philosophy of the peoples to which these linguistic norms belong. However, it is not specified in which subject these innovations will be added.
