Increased Pensions and Train Fare Discounts Among Summer Benefits for Russians
Starting June 1, Russia will implement special benefits for families with children and pensioners. Notably, children aged 10 to 17 will be able to purchase train tickets at a 50% discount through the end of summer.
Additionally, enhanced child benefits will be available from the beginning of summer. This applies to families whose income decreased last year and who are due to reapply for benefits this year. Previously, families received benefits amounting to 50% of the child’s subsistence minimum, but now the amount can be increased to 75% or even 100%, provided there have been changes in the family’s income. Furthermore, a family member can apply for state social assistance, including on the basis of a social contract, at social protection offices.
Some changes will also affect the allocation of unified benefits considering alimony. Beneficiaries will need to provide information about the alimony amounts when extending their benefits.
Pensioners will also see changes. If a pensioner resigned in May, their pension amount will be recalculated and increased. Even if they return to work later, the increase will not be revoked. However, they will not be eligible for the annual indexation that is applied on January 1 for non-working pensioners.
Additionally, starting July 1, certain privileged categories of Russians will be able to pay for utility services without commission. This includes combat veterans, participants in the Great Patriotic War, their family members, as well as the families of deceased or deceased disabled individuals, parents of multiple children, pensioners, and people with disabilities.
