New inspection stations will be introduced at border checkpoints

Plans are in place to equip 21 border checkpoints with domestic portal inspection and screening complexes by 2027. This equipment will be capable of quickly scanning 100% of cargo-carrying vehicles. The Ministry of Transport has reported this development.

Portal complexes differ from stationary and mobile ones in that they use minimal radiation for scanning. Drivers will be able to pass through these complexes without stopping, significantly reducing queues.

If a driver refuses to undergo inspection through the portal complex, they can undergo standard control procedures.

The first such complex was introduced in a test format at the “Zabaikalsk” automobile checkpoint in the Russian Far East—where faster and higher-quality scanning can be carried out on both entry and exit. Similar equipment has already been implemented at other automobile checkpoints—on the borders with Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and in new regions in 2022-2023.

It is worth noting that Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the need to address the issue of long queues at border checkpoints in his address to the Federal Assembly. He stated that the inspection time should not exceed 10 minutes.
