Most people suffer from a lack of fiber in their bodies
The diet of the modern person is full of fast carbohydrates and harmful fats, which negatively affect the functioning of the entire body. The heart suffers primarily from such products, reminded doctor-dietitian Lisa Afinskaya.
Normalizing the work of the heart muscle and improving its condition will help fiber. This micronutrient is found in many foods, but about 90% of people do not get enough of it from their diet. Fiber is beneficial not only for the heart. It is effective in preventing diabetes and even cancer. In addition, consuming fiber reduces the risk of developing metabolic syndrome, a metabolic disorder that leads to obesity. This effect is due to the property of fiber to lower the level of “bad” cholesterol in the blood.
The medic explained that the micronutrient binds with bile acids in the intestines and removes them from the body. That is why foods containing fiber can also protect against gastrointestinal cancer.
Most of all fiber is found in green peas, cooked lima beans, raspberries, apples, kiwi, pears, and Brussels sprouts. The dietitian also advised adding pumpkin seeds, almonds, oatmeal, oranges, lentils, and chickpeas to the diet.
However, it is very important to introduce such foods into your daily menu gradually. Excessive fiber intake can lead to bloating, severe spasms, and digestive disturbances.
