In Leningrad Oblast, Sber to Introduce Digital Solutions
At the design session on AI transformation organized by Sber, officials and experts discussed modern solutions to issues vital to the Leningrad region. They explored methods to combat unauthorized dumpsites, expedite citizen inquiries, and optimize public sector operations using artificial intelligence.
One of Sber’s successful cases presented was a system combating unauthorized dumpsites. “AI analyzes images from traffic cameras, detecting illegal dumping, tracking garbage trucks, assessing load volumes, and monitoring their route timings,” explained Vladimir Mikhailov, Managing Regional Director of Territory Development and Regional Projects at Sberbank.
Impressive results were showcased, notably in the Moscow region, where this system reduced dumpsites by half and saved the budget 360 million rubles annually on waste disposal.
During the session, an expert highlighted how AI already surpasses humans in numerous criteria. For instance, AI excels in identifying deepfakes and image classification.
Looking ahead, Vladimir Mikhailov predicted substantial growth for the industry. By 2030, the expected GDP boost from AI implementation is estimated at 11.3 trillion rubles. Forecasts anticipate a 6% GDP increase, a tenfold rise in computational capacities, and crucially, up to a 95% increase in industries embracing AI.
Sber has already implemented 500 AI-based solutions across 69 Russian regions. Experts believe that AI will soon revolutionize public services. Proactive governance, forecasting citizen and business needs, personalized services — all made possible with AI, which has become an indispensable virtual assistant for civil servants.
To enhance productivity, session participants formed four teams focusing on urban environment, ecology, social sphere, healthcare, finance, regional development, communal housing, and tariff policy. After three hours of collaboration, these teams proposed an AI-based development package for implementation in Leningrad Oblast.
