Russian Railways (RZD) have announced plans to build high-speed railways across the country
The company’s CEO, Oleg Belozerov, stated that RZD aims to complete all planned high-speed rail projects in Russia within 10-15 years. He specified that several projects are in the pipeline, including routes from Moscow to St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Adler, Minsk, and Ryazan.
A high-speed railway consists of electrified double-track lines for trains with speeds ranging from 200 to 400 km/h. The first pilot project will be the route between Moscow and St. Petersburg, with plans to create a network of similar high-speed lines across the country.
Previously, Belozerov announced that the launch of the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway is scheduled for 2030, with the first trains possibly operating as early as 2028-2029.
It is expected that the construction of most planned high-speed railways will be completed by 2043.
