Russian Scientists Develop Blood-Cleansing Sorbent.

Scientists at the I. V. Grebenshchikov Institute of Silicate Chemistry, part of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center, have developed a new sorbent capable of effectively purifying blood from viruses, bacteria, and toxins. This synthetic material, created based on complexes that mimic the properties of natural aluminosilicates, has a specified phase and chemical composition, porous-texture characteristics, and is entirely safe for the human body.

Researchers used synthetic montmorillonites, structurally similar to natural minerals, and found that they are non-toxic and do not damage blood cells, making them suitable for medical applications. The new material has a high absorption capacity, surpassing natural sorbents by two to four times.

This opens up prospects not only for blood purification but also for the creation of wound dressings, burn coverings, and chromatographic systems for extracting proteins from complex mixtures. Additionally, the development is more cost-effective than imported analogs.
