In Primorye, Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit to be Established

The first bone marrow transplantation unit in the Russian Far East will be established in Vladivostok next year, as announced by the regional government. Previously, patients had to travel to federal centers for transplantation, but soon they will be able to receive assistance in their own region.

The unit, designed for 12 beds, will operate at the regional clinical hospital No. 2. Currently, renovations are underway, and the facility is being equipped with the necessary equipment, along with staff training.

It is planned that the unit will start admitting patients after obtaining the appropriate license. According to the plan, 20-30 transplantations will be performed annually. On average, patients will spend three to four weeks in the round-the-clock hospital.

It’s worth noting that transplantology has been developing in Primorye for only 2 years since 2021. Despite this relatively short period, significant progress has been made. Medical professionals in the region already perform kidney, liver, and corneal transplantation surgeries locally.
