Valentina Matviyenko, chairwoman of the Russian Federation Council, has vocalised the need to align regional legislation with a federal standard for supporting large families. She emphasized the necessity for enhanced awareness amongst families about available benefits and assistance, and an in-depth analysis of the actual accessibility of these measures across the country.

Speaking at a legislative council meeting held at the Tauride Palace in Saint Petersburg, Matviyenko highlighted the challenges faced by large families in various regions. These challenges include restricted access to free visits to museums, theatres, and zoos, which are often limited to weekdays and specific hours.

The limitations create significant obstacles not only for working parents but also for their children, who are typically occupied with school during these times.

Furthermore, Matviyenko criticised the unjust distribution of land plots to large families, which are often bereft of essential infrastructure such as electricity, water supply, and proper roads, compounding the difficulties faced by these families.
