Easily surpassing 100,000 tourists over the holidays, the ski resorts of the Northern Caucasus have set a new record. This year, the resort leading in tourist growth was “Elbrus” in Kabardino-Balkaria. Compared to the previous year, the resort saw a 35% increase in visitors, with over 43,000 people. On January 2nd, a new attendance record was set, with 7,218 people simultaneously enjoying their time. On other days during the holidays, “Elbrus” hosted around 6,000 guests daily, exceeding the figures from previous years.
The resort “Arkhyz” in Karachay-Cherkessia welcomed over 74,000 tourists, marking a 12% increase compared to the previous winter holidays.
According to Sergey Nazarov, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, the resorts of the Northern Caucasus are becoming increasingly popular not only among winter sports enthusiasts but also for tourists who prefer mountain walks. The resorts are actively developing; this year, the skiing area was expanded by 2.5 km to a total of 19.5 km. Additionally, plans for this season include launching three more kilometers of trails and two new cable cars on “Elbrus.”
