The expense of preparing the traditional Easter kulich in Russia has increased by 15.3% over the past year, as reported by Rousprodsoyuz.

A study examining the cost involved used a classic kulich recipe, which requires 350 grams of flour, 2 eggs, 170 milliliters of milk, 70 grams of butter, and 100 grams each of sugar and dried fruits. Additionally, the icing requires 2 egg whites and 100 grams of sugar.

Experts calculated that, in 2024, the total cost of these ingredients has reached 211 rubles and 40 kopecks, up from 183 rubles and 30 kopecks the previous year.

The primary driver behind the kulich’s price increase is the significant rise in egg prices, which have surged by 46% over the last year. Despite this, Rousprodsoyuz notes that egg prices in Russia remain among the lowest in the world.

In related news, the cost of barbecued meat in Russia has also risen, with chicken skewers experiencing a 20% increase. Pork skewers saw a 13% price increase, while turkey skewers went up by 10.3%.

Additionally, the price of a basic food basket for Russians has increased by 1.5%, reaching 6,110 rubles and 90 kopecks.
