Bariatric surgeon Maxim Mukans warned that the appearance of dark spots on the skin could indicate the development of a dangerous condition—diabetes.
Changes in skin color, especially under the arms, in the groin area, and around the neck, are common signs of prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. Black spots, also called acanthosis, are not only a cosmetic issue but also indicate poor metabolism, explained the doctor.
He also pointed out another early sign of diabetes: slow wound healing, scratches, and bruises. This condition reduces the body’s ability to regenerate, so any skin injuries may take longer to heal than usual.
Diabetes also has other signs:
— excessive thirst,
— frequent urination,
— fatigue,
— unexplained weight loss,
— itching in the genital area,
— frequent yeast infections,
— worsening vision.
When these symptoms appear, Mukans recommends seeking medical help immediately. Early diagnosis of diabetes allows for better management of the condition.
