The State Duma’s Committee on State Building reviewed a bill proposing to reduce the light transmission requirements for the front side windows of cars and recommended its rejection.

The committee justified its conclusion by stating that reducing side visibility for drivers could lead to an increase in road accidents, reports “Kommersant”. The committee noted that transparent windows allow drivers to see pedestrians through the windows of other cars in a timely manner.

The bill proposed lowering the light transmission threshold for side windows to 35%. This initiative belongs to Yaroslav Nilov, who heads the Social Policy Committee. He believes that the adoption of such a law would improve driving conditions during hot weather. This is especially relevant for drivers living in the southern regions of the country.

Currently, a fine of 500 rubles may be imposed for violating the light transmission requirement.

Earlier, the State Building Committee approved and recommended the first reading of a bill that allows car owners to appeal fines within 10 calendar days. Currently, they have 10 days to do so.

It was also revealed that the government gave a negative review of a bill prohibiting the evacuation of vehicles displaying a “Disabled” sign.
