In August 2024, the Northern Fleet and the Russian Geographical Society (RGO) plan to organize a joint expedition to the New Land Archipelago. This was announced by Captain Second Rank Sergey Zinchenko, Chief of Staff of the Northern Fleet. The expedition is expected to last for two weeks and will include extensive research on the Northern Island, including a seismological group, as such studies in this region have not been conducted before.

Zinchenko noted that the previous expedition in 2020 led to the discovery of several new islands and straits. As part of the project “The Main Facade of Russia: History, Events, People,” initiated in 2018, joint Arctic expeditions have become part of a broad historical and cultural project covering major archipelagos in the northern seas.
