Maxim Shaskolsky, head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS), has urged Russian airlines to set ticket prices that are affordable for all citizens for domestic flights.
Shaskolsky noted that this initiative follows a directive from President Vladimir Putin, who highlighted the issue. In response, the FAS will monitor airline ticket prices. The cost of flights has risen due to increased expenses for aircraft maintenance, repairs, and the rising prices of spare parts. Additionally, the volume of government subsidies has significantly decreased compared to 2022.
According to Shaskolsky, the principles used by airlines in the pricing process must be transparent. The focus should be on ensuring ticket affordability for Russian citizens. The FAS will analyze pricing practices and take responsive measures against some companies based on the results.
The head of FAS also mentioned that specific airlines have already received letters requiring them to clarify their current pricing procedures. The goal is to ensure ticket availability on domestic routes for citizens with varying financial capabilities.
