The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has received numerous complaints from Russian citizens concerning unjustified increases in airfare prices, with some routes showing price levels inconsistent with dynamic pricing strategies.
The press service of FAS revealed that an analysis of prices and route capacities has raised questions about the practices of certain airlines. Major Russian carriers have been sent formal requests to provide information on their pricing policies and an analysis of changes in airfare costs. Responses from these airlines have already been received, and experts are currently reviewing the data, per the FAS announcement.
Furthermore, the agency stated that it is keeping a close watch on the pricing algorithms used by airlines. FAS also expressed its intention to continuously monitor the minimum ticket prices and take appropriate actions when necessary.
Previously, the FAS initiated a case against the airline S7 (“Siberia”) over its ticket pricing. The carrier was issued a warning by FAS, which it not only failed to comply with but also attempted to challenge. The court upheld the FAS’s position.
