Railway connections between Russia and North Korea were halted in 2020 due to the pandemic. Now, they have been resumed, and the first train carrying tourists from Russia has departed for North Korea.

This was reported by the Federal Customs Service. More than 40 Russians have traveled to the friendly nation. Russia and North Korea continue to develop cooperation in various fields, including tourism.

Earlier, Maya Lomidze, head of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR), mentioned plans to create a special tourist zone in North Korea for Russian tourists, which may be established by 2025. The government of Primorsky Krai confirmed this information, stating that construction of such a zone has already begun. The zone will cover an area of 2.8 square kilometers. It will feature 17 hotels, 37 inns, and 29 shops. Additionally, Russian tourists will have access to a 4-kilometer-long beach and other infrastructure facilities.

There has also been a reported increase in interest among Russians in domestic tourism. Demand for tours to several Russian cities, including Krasnoyarsk, Petrozavodsk, and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, has shown significant growth.

Among international destinations, Budapest has become the leader in terms of growth in demand for tours. The number of Russians wishing to visit Hungary has increased several times compared to earlier periods.
