9 Vessels Currently Under Repair at the Medvezhegorsk Fleet Maintenance and Operation Base

At the Medvezhegorsk repair and operation base (REB) of the fleet in the village of Pindushi, Republic of Karelia, repairs are underway for 9 vessels. Over the past two years, the enterprise has successfully repaired 17 vessels of various types. This information was provided by Elissan Shandalovich, a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the region. Currently, about 90 people work at the base, including experienced local specialists.

The enterprise’s plans for 2024 include the modernization of the electrical supply system, which has not undergone changes since Soviet times. For this purpose, a subsidy of 58.8 million rubles is provided in the budget of Karelia. Additionally, the Medvezhegorsk REB of the fleet plans to take advantage of the federal value-added tax (VAT) exemption for ship repair enterprises and allocate the freed-up funds for additional reconstruction.

The history of the Medvezhegorsk Fleet REB is closely related to the White Sea-Baltic Canal. After its construction, there was a shortage of fleet. In 1934, the Pindushi shipyard was organized. In the mid-20th century, the enterprise received a new name—Medvezhegorsk Fleet REB. Currently, it includes a ship lift capable of handling vessels up to 120 meters long and docks weighing up to 2000 tons, as well as a ship hull workshop, paint workshop, mechanical processing workshop, and more.
