Intestinal disorders are a common issue in Russia, oncologist and proctologist Elena Smirnova stated on her Telegram channel.
According to Smirnova, 12-19% of the population suffers from chronic constipation. When the intestines are not cleared in a timely manner, undigested food remnants, water, bacteria, and metabolic products accumulate. This negatively affects both the intestines and the nervous system.
Smirnova advised adjusting one’s diet and incorporating physical activity. If these measures do not help, seeking medical advice is essential.
She emphasized the importance of developing a regular bathroom schedule. Equally important are fiber and water intake. Fiber should be introduced gradually into the diet, and water consumption should be increased to 6-8 glasses a day, she explained.
She recommended including kefir, bifidok, unsweetened yogurt, and sauerkraut in the diet, provided there are no individual intolerances.
For proper intestinal function, it is crucial to avoid stress or learn how to manage it, and to maintain physical activity. This does not mean intensive exercise immediately after eating; walking for 10-15 minutes several times a day is sufficient, concluded Smirnova.
