This time, the traveler will embark on an expedition on a raft made of recycled plastic.

Explorer Fyodor Konyukhov plans to undertake his last journey in 2032—when he turns 80. The new expedition, named “Age Is Not a Barrier,” envisions a solo journey across the Pacific Ocean on a raft made from recycled plastic. Konyukhov told journalists that construction of the raft has already begun. The choice of material is driven by the adventurer’s interest in studying microplastics in the ocean. This new expedition will mark the concluding chapter in his remarkable career.

To recap, Fyodor Konyukhov is the first person in the world to reach all five poles of our planet: the North Geographic Pole (three times), the South Geographic Pole, the Pole of Inaccessibility in the Arctic Ocean, Mount Everest (the height pole), and Cape Horn (the yachtsmen’s pole). He was also the first person in Russia to reach the North and South Poles on skis alone, the first to complete a solo circumnavigation, the first to accomplish the Seven Summits program, the first to cross the Pacific Ocean in a rowing boat, and the first to make a circumnavigation by hot air balloon.
