The government commission has endorsed a proposal to establish administrative penalties for dangerous driving.

According to the draft law, violations of traffic regulations due to dangerous driving will incur fines ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 rubles. Repeat offenders will face a driver’s license suspension for a period of 1 to 3 months, reports RIA Novosti.

However, the government pointed out several shortcomings in the draft law. The document does not specify the powers of traffic police officers (GIBDD) in handling such violations. Additionally, introducing administrative responsibility for dangerous driving should not necessitate an increase in the number of traffic police officers or require additional budget allocations.

The government stated that it would approve the draft law once these issues are addressed.

Currently, traffic regulations include a provision on dangerous driving, which has been in effect since 2016. However, there are no penalties stipulated for drivers who violate this provision.

It was also recently revealed that the Ministry of Transport has agreed with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, regional authorities, and businesses on new rules for using video surveillance systems on roads.
