Many Russians face vision problems due to prolonged use of computers and other gadgets. This can manifest as dryness, redness, and strain, stated Dr. Elina Santoro, a highly qualified ophthalmologist, ophthalmic surgeon, and candidate of medical sciences, in a conversation with “AiF”.
She provided some advice to fellow citizens on how to avoid discomfort and maintain eye health.
Santoro advised limiting the time spent in front of screens. She reminded about the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes of computer work should be followed by a break, during which one should look into the distance for 20 seconds and blink 20 times. This simple exercise helps relieve eye strain.
Equally important is to properly organize one’s workspace. There are certain standards that establish the distance and height of the monitor. It’s also essential not to hold a smartphone too close to the eyes.
Proper lighting is of great importance. The ophthalmologist recommends using natural light and minimizing time spent in dark rooms, as well as avoiding sharp changes in lighting.
Additionally, regular visits to the ophthalmologist are necessary. This allows for timely detection of vision problems and starting treatment if necessary, concluded Santoro.
