Transitioning smoothly back to a regular diet after the conclusion of the Great Lent requires a gradual approach over two weeks, advised gastroenterologist Kalimat Bagatova.

According to Bagatova, it is crucial to avoid abruptly reintroducing foods that were restricted during the fasting period. Instead, new products should be gradually added to the diet in small portions, monitoring how the body reacts. The process of reintroducing all previously restricted foods should span across two weeks.

In a comment to RIA Novosti, Bagatova warned that immediately consuming large quantities of foods that were limited during the fast might exacerbate chronic illnesses.

Should such issues arise, it is imperative to consult a doctor who can conduct an examination and prescribe the necessary treatment, including a diet that limits the intake of fatty, spicy, and sugary foods, the gastroenterologist explained.

The Great Lent lasts for 48 days, beginning seven weeks before Easter Monday and ending on the Saturday before Easter.

In 2024, the Great Lent will run from March 18 until May 4 (inclusive).
