Russia Extends Toll-Free Travel on Paid Highways for Electric Vehicles
The government has resolved to prolong the privilege of toll-free travel for electric vehicles on paid highways in Russia through the year 2024. This strategic move, part of the broader federal initiative titled “Electric and Hydrogen Vehicle,” ensures that drivers opting for electric vehicles will continue to enjoy toll exemptions on federal highways.
Driving Towards a Green Future
This concession, initially introduced in 2023, witnessed significant demand, with approximately 5,000 electric vehicle owners seizing the opportunity, resulting in around 315,000 toll-free journeys. Effective from January 19, toll-free travel will once again be operational on the paid sections of the M-1, M-3, M-4, M-11, M-12, TsKAD, and the Northern Bypass of Odintsovo.
Authorities emphasize that this measure has proven to be a compelling incentive for electric vehicle adoption, with a notable 70% surge in the number of electric vehicles in regions adjacent to toll roads and a substantial 40% increase in other regions.
