The number of budgetary places in vocational colleges in Russia is increasing. In 2023, the admission to budget places in colleges grew by more than 60% to 739 thousand people.
The Ministry of Education and Science informed “Izvestia” about this. The department will analyze the situation and prepare a forecast for the need for personnel in the coming years. Factors such as the expected development of the Russian economy, implementation of investment projects, and possible changes in the labor market will be taken into account. Based on the assessment received, the ministry, together with regional authorities, will adjust the number of budgetary places in colleges.
Statistics show that nursing, cooking, and programming are studied for free. Meanwhile, specialties related to jurisprudence and economics are paid.
The State Duma is discussing the possibility of fully transitioning vocational education to free tuition. According to the Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, this will help alleviate the problem in our country associated with a shortage of personnel. Paid education in colleges leads to the state not receiving a sufficient number of qualified workers. If the initiative of the deputies is supported, it could be implemented as early as 2025.
