Indonesia is a popular destination for tourists from various countries, including Russia, with most preferring to vacation on the island of Bali.

Indonesian authorities have urged tourists to respect the country’s laws, as well as the customs, culture, and nature of the Indonesian people. Failure to do so will result in inevitable punishment, said Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He also mentioned that the security presence in Bali will be increased. Measures to ensure order will include the deployment of tourist police, artificial intelligence, and a facial recognition system.

Previously, the Russian ambassador to Indonesia, Lyudmila Vorobyova, stated that most Russian tourists behave appropriately. When violations do occur, they are typically due to a lack of knowledge about local laws and customs. However, the number of complaints about Russians has been growing recently, which Vorobyova believes to be politically motivated.

In 2023, several hundred foreign tourists, including Russians, were deported from Bali. This extreme measure was taken due to violations of Indonesian laws by tourists.
