In Russia, a surgical operation on a fish hedgehog has been successfully performed for the first time.
The Primorsky Oceanarium has successfully conducted the first surgical operation in Russia to remove an abscess from a long-spined fish hedgehog. Similar cases have not been described in literary sources, making local ichthyologists pioneers in this field.
To immobilize the fish hedgehog, safe sedative drugs of plant origin were used. They pose no danger to animals and do not affect vital organs and the nervous system. Local anesthesia was also applied to the operative area.
At the moment, the operated fish feels great and has already returned to its usual way of life.
The Primorsky Oceanarium, part of the National Scientific Center of Marine Biology, is the first and only oceanarium in Russia under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
