Scientists Develop 26% More Productive Wheat.

Joint efforts by scientists from the Bryansk State Agrarian University and the Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Agriculture have led to the creation of a new wheat variety that provides a yield 26% higher than the standard. Dr. Vladimir Torikov from Bryansk State Agrarian University shared information about the new variety, named “Mila.”

The “Mila” variety originated from a hybrid population selected by Belarusian breeders at the Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Agriculture. University scientists developed an intensive breeding technology for “Mila,” resulting in a grain yield of over 100 quintals per hectare. The maximum yield in the Bryansk region reached 78.9 quintals per hectare, which is 26% higher than the standard for the “Mera” variety. Some farms achieved yields ranging from 110 to 125 quintals per hectare.

The new wheat variety exhibits winter hardiness, resistance to lodging, and protection against diseases such as snow mold and septoria. The “Mila” variety is actively utilized in large-scale agricultural production in the Bryansk region and Belarus. In 2023, it was already included in the register of approved varieties.
