Mikhail Shvydkoy, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cultural Cooperation, announced to journalists that the Intervision Song Contest is planned to be held in Moscow at the beginning of 2025.

Shvydkoy mentioned that the specifics of collaboration between national broadcasting companies and their Moscow counterparts are currently being finalized.

Previously, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Intervision Song Contest will become an annual event. Russia’s initiative has garnered significant interest from other countries. The international contest is expected to serve as a platform for showcasing the musical cultures of various nations. Alexander Alimov, a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted that the ministry is assisting the organizers of Intervision in establishing connections with friendly countries. For instance, a representative has already been appointed in China to handle matters related to Chinese performers’ participation in the contest.

Shvydkoy also highlighted that the contest aims to move away from English-language dominance, with participants performing songs in their native languages.

The concept for this contest was proposed by Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova and General Director of Channel One Konstantin Ernst. They presented the idea in November 2023 at the St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum.
