AvtoVAZ has announced a record-breaking increase in sales for Lada vehicles in 2024. As of April, sales have surged by 65% compared to the same month last year, with a total of 45,600 cars sold. This marks the highest sales figure in a 12-year span.
From January to April, sales rose by more than 49% year-on-year, reaching 137,000 vehicles.
The resurgence is particularly noted in the sales of Lada Vesta, with 13,500 units sold in April alone and 36,800 over the four-month period. Lada Granta has also peaked, with 21,400 vehicles sold in April and 64,200 during the first four months of the year. The Niva Legend model saw significant growth as well, with 4,800 units sold in April—an increase of over 42% from last year. The SUV’s four-month sales totaled 16,600 units, almost 52% higher than in April 2023.
Maxim Sokolov, the head of AvtoVAZ, has hinted at possible price increases for Lada cars in the near future, although any hikes would be below the rate of inflation. He also noted that Chinese automakers are currently offering substantial discounts to Russian consumers, resulting in higher revenues despite selling fewer cars. This pricing strategy is pushing AvtoVAZ into a low-margin segment of the automotive market, where cars are cheaper and less innovation is apparent.
