More than half of Russians (60%) consider taxi rides too expensive and prefer other modes of transportation, according to a survey conducted by VTsIOM.
Main Reasons for Avoiding Taxis:
- High cost
- Long waiting times
- Potential no-shows
- Unclean and unpleasant car interiors
According to 66% of respondents, the cost of taxi rides has become less attractive over the past year. Additionally, 18% of Russians believe that public transportation is more convenient than taxis. Another 12% are unsure about the safety of taxi rides, and 11% dislike the drivers.
Taxis are popular among affluent individuals. Among those who rate their financial situation as good or very good, 49% use taxis, compared to 37% of those with average financial status and 33% of those with poor financial status.
Taxis rank in the top three most popular modes of transportation (38%), following ground public transport (58%) and personal cars (55%).
Frequency of Taxi Use:
- 73% of Russians use taxis several times a year or more frequently.
- 10% call a taxi once a week.
- 8% reported never using taxis.
The survey included over 1,600 participants aged 18 and older.
