The Russian Ministry of Labour has proposed a significant increase in maternity benefits for women who lose their jobs due to company liquidations, aligning the payments with the minimum wage (MROT).

Currently, the minimum maternity benefit stands at 922.6 rubles per month. However, from January 1, 2025, the Ministry plans to adjust this amount to match the minimum wage, ensuring better support for affected women.

To be eligible for this benefit, women must have been dismissed due to organizational liquidation, be enrolled in full-time education, or be serving in the military under contract. Working women receive benefits equivalent to their salary, students receive an amount similar to their scholarship, and servicewomen are paid an amount commensurate with their military salary.

For instance, the benefit amount for giving birth to one child can reach 565,500 rubles, and for multiple births, it can go up to 783,700 rubles.

Women who choose to continue working through their pregnancy do not qualify for this benefit. Once they opt for maternity leave, salary payments cease and maternity benefits commence.
