The number of large families in Moscow has doubled over the past five years, reaching 233,000 in 2025, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced at the “Demography 2.0: A Reset” forum.

Looking further back, the mayor noted that over the past 15 years, the number of families with three or more children has increased 3.5 times. Since 2009, the city has awarded 372 families with the honorary title “Parental Glory of Moscow”, reserved for those raising five or more children, once the youngest turns five.

The forum also featured Valentina Matviyenko, chairwoman of the Federation Council, who reported that across Russia the number of children in large families has risen by 30% over the past five years, now exceeding 2.5 million.
