The number of self-employed individuals in Russia has risen, with over 10 million compatriots currently holding this status. This information is gleaned from statistical data available on the website of the Federal Tax Service (FNS).

Interestingly, more than 50% of them had not previously declared their income. In the FNS, these Russians are referred to as newcomers.

The agency also noted that every day in Russia, over 8,500 people become self-employed.

Several sectors are among the most popular fields of activity:

  • Taxi services,
  • Beauty services,
  • Cargo transportation,
  • Renting out apartments.

In addition to these, self-employed individuals are in high demand for repair works, marketing services, as well as selling their own production and tutoring.

Regarding the most highly paid types of business among the self-employed, these include IT services, as well as marketing and advertising, according to the FNS.
