A new method for assessing oil fields has been discovered, making oil extraction more efficient. Scientists from the North Caucasus Federal University have developed a unique method for detecting oil in complex carbonate reservoirs. The effectiveness of this method has already been demonstrated in the Eastern Pre-Caucasus region, aiding in identifying the most promising areas for oil and gas extraction.
According to the scientists, the application of such technology will help preserve jobs in rural areas and reduce drilling costs through more accurate identification of zones with increased fracturing.
“We identified zones of increased productivity and created digital geological models of carbonate deposits,” shared Katerina Chernenko, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Oil and Gas Geology at North Caucasus Federal University, highlighting the use of a comprehensive analysis of satellite imagery and geological exploration data.
The scientists also believe that implementing the results of their work in the oil and gas sector will help strengthen the country’s energy potential through a more effective method of determining productive zones for extraction.
