By the end of 2024, the number of cameras installed on the roads of St. Petersburg will increase to 1,440.

This information was reported by the city administration’s press service. Statistics indicate a significant reduction in road accidents since the introduction of cameras monitoring traffic violations. Over the past three months, the number of road incidents has decreased by 3%, while fatal accidents have dropped by 6%.

Additionally, the press service of Smolny announced that by the end of the first quarter of 2024, the number of traffic accidents had halved compared to the first quarter of 2020, when only 200 cameras were operational on the city’s roads.

The surveillance systems on St. Petersburg’s roads capture a range of violations, including running red lights, speeding, and lane violations. Since April, the cameras have also started recording vehicles driving in the wrong lane.

Most traffic violations in the city are related to speeding, accounting for 88% of all recorded cases. Violations involving running red lights make up approximately 8%.

In 2023, cameras capable of recording drivers failing to yield to pedestrians were introduced on St. Petersburg’s roads for the first time.
