Residents of Perm are being asked to come up with names for three red wolves that recently settled in the local zoo, brought from Novosibirsk. According to the zoo’s post on the VKontakte social network, since the males are new residents and have not yet been named, there is a unique opportunity to suggest your own options. Zoo staff reminded that many are familiar with this species thanks to the works of Rudyard Kipling, where he describes these animals as red dogs.

Red wolves, listed in the Red Book, are a rare species and are threatened with extinction in Russia. Their main habitats are in Central, Southern, and Eastern Asia, such as India, Indonesia, China, Mongolia, and Tibet. In Russia, they are rarely encountered, mainly in the southern outskirts of the Far East and Siberia.

The zoo noted that red wolves are highly intelligent and cautious; it’s practically impossible to lure them into a trap. They swim well, including in icy water, can jump, and climb high mountains.
