Long time – no see
In the Tikhon Shpilenok Nature Reserve in the southern part of Kamchatka, an uncommon regional animal, the lynx, has been discovered. Initially, inspectors patrolling the area noticed lynx tracks on the shore of the Sea of Okhotsk. Later, they spotted the actual animal. The last close contact with this species in the reserve occurred five years ago.
The lynx is not a native inhabitant of Kamchatka. It is presumed that these lynxes migrated to the peninsula from Yakutia and then from the Magadan region. In the 1970s, hunters observed them in the central part of Kamchatka, and the first representative of this species was noticed in the southern part of the peninsula at the end of the 20th century.
