The absence of an adequate amount of vegetables, fruits, and other plant-based products containing fiber in the diet can lead to chronic fatigue, overweight, and other dangerous health consequences, warned dietitian Michael Mosley.

According to him, fiber comes in soluble and insoluble forms. Soluble fiber helps lower cholesterol and blood glucose levels, while insoluble fiber prevents constipation. If the body does not receive enough plant fibers, it can lead to health problems.

Mosley identified constant hunger as the first noticeable symptom of fiber deficiency. Without plant fibers, food is digested faster, leading to increased cravings. Additionally, a lack of fiber can cause chronic fatigue because it helps stabilize blood sugar levels, and fluctuations in blood sugar are usually accompanied by a loss of energy.

A deficiency in plant fibers leads to weight gain and fat accumulation in the abdominal area. Frequent constipation also indicates insufficient consumption of plant-based foods, explained the dietitian.
