Due to the worsening global cholera situation, necessary measures were taken in Russia as early as March-April 2024. These measures have significantly reduced the risk of the serious disease spreading within the country.

Rospotrebnadzor released a statement on their official website detailing these precautions. The spread of cholera has become a pressing issue, particularly following reports of outbreaks in the Kherson region, controlled by Kyiv. Pro-Russian underground sources reported that over 100 individuals, including both civilians and military personnel, have been hospitalized due to cholera, with 12 fatalities. Authorities appointed by Kyiv in the Kherson region have allegedly attempted to suppress this information.

Rospotrebnadzor has intensified monitoring in border areas and stated that they are prepared to respond swiftly if cholera cases arise in Russia. However, they maintain that the situation remains stable for now.

The World Health Organization (WHO) previously reported a 58% increase in global cholera cases in May 2024 compared to April. A total of 46,400 cases were recorded across 19 countries.

The highest incidence of cholera was observed in the Eastern Mediterranean region. Afghanistan and Pakistan reported more than 26,000 new cases in May alone.
