The Russian government intends to prohibit the use of flavorings, food additives, and dietary supplements in liquids for electronic cigarettes, reports the newspaper “Kommersant” referring to a draft directive.
The Ministry of Health of Russia has developed a project that prohibits the “circulation” of substances that increase the attractiveness of nicotine-containing and nicotine-free liquids, as well as nicotine solutions, including liquids for electronic cigarettes, and additives that enhance nicotine dependence.
After the document is adopted, only liquids for electronic cigarettes containing nicotine, distilled glycerin, and propylene glycol will remain on sale.
The explanatory note emphasizes that this directive aims to reduce the consumption of nicotine products, especially among young people. The authors of the project state that similar bans are in place in several other countries, including several states in the USA.
Vyacheslav Volodin, the Chairman of the State Duma, has previously proposed suspending the activities of retail outlets for selling vapes to minors. Later, he also advocated for separating such outlets from business operations during inspections.
