A special committee may be established under the President of the Russian Federation to promote a healthy lifestyle.

This proposal was initiated by cardiothoracic surgeon and head of the “Health of the Nation League,” Academician Leo Bokeria. In a conversation with Izvestia, he noted that such a committee could coordinate government policy on fostering a healthy lifestyle among the population. While several ministries currently promote a healthy lifestyle, they operate independently of each other. The committee would be able to unify their efforts.

According to Bokeria, Russia should establish healthy lifestyle centers and develop common approaches to motivate citizens to visit them. He believes that the country needs programs aimed at creating conditions for improving health and fostering a culture of health consciousness.

One of the main strategic goals currently facing Russia is addressing the demographic issue. The birth rate in the country is declining. In 2023, the fertility rate was 1.4 births per woman, the lowest in the past 17 years. Therefore, promoting a healthy lifestyle should be given priority.

Russia needs not just episodic propaganda of healthy lifestyle values but a comprehensive system. This system should include both governmental and public structures. This is what the special committee could focus on, stated Bokeria.
