The State Duma and a number of government agencies are discussing the provision of additional payments to young families with children, where at least one of the spouses is a student.

The committees of the State Duma dealing with youth policy and family protection have already made a relevant decision, reports Izvestia. Currently, Russian students receive a scholarship ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 rubles. Legislators are considering the possibility of introducing an additional payment to the scholarships of young parents up to the subsistence minimum, which currently amounts to 15,453 rubles.

According to the head of the Committee on Family Protection, Fatherhood, Motherhood, and Childhood, Nina Ostanina, such a payment should have been introduced in Russia long ago. It will serve as an incentive for young Russians to have children.

Proposals on this issue from the relevant committees of the State Duma have already been sent to the Ministry of Education and Science. The ministry stated that it is necessary to discuss the decision with the expert community before making a decision.

The Ministry of Finance, in response to Izvestia inquiry, stated that the document on additional payments to student families will be reviewed, but it has not yet been received by the ministry.
