Rospotrebnadzor has prepared a draft resolution to extend until July 2030 the validity period of requirements related to chemical weapons. The document has been published on the official website of the agency.

The requirements pertain to the placement, design, construction, operation, and re-profiling of facilities for the destruction of chemical weapons, as well as the decommissioning of facilities where it was stored.

According to the explanatory note to the draft resolution, work related to the destruction of chemical weapons was completed in Russia in 2017. However, it is still necessary to eliminate the consequences associated with the activities of the facilities where its destruction took place. Currently, this work is ongoing. But more time will be needed to eliminate all the consequences. Therefore, Rospotrebnadzor has proposed extending the validity period of the relevant requirements.

It was previously announced that Russia was not re-elected to the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. However, Moscow intends to continue cooperation in this area with allies and like-minded partners.
