Chairwoman of the State Duma Committee on Family Protection, Nina Ostanina, has proposed making Family, Love, and Fidelity Day, celebrated on July 8, a public holiday. The proposal has already been sent to Minister of Labor and Social Protection Anton Kotyakov, reports RIA Novosti.
Many Russian families have approached the State Duma Committee with the suggestion to make July 8 a holiday for parents of large families, Ostanina explained.
She added that she supports this initiative as it demonstrates the state’s care for large families.
The deputy believes that a holiday on Family, Love, and Fidelity Day will not affect labor productivity, as most mothers from the 2.4 million large families in Russia devote themselves to child-rearing and do not work.
Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has previously approved a unified certificate for large families. This document will include information about the parents, including their photographs, and children. The certificate will also note the date of status establishment and the duration of social support measures.
