Starting September 1, 2024, Russia will implement a ban on the sale of energy drinks to individuals under 18 years old.
The announcement was made by State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin via his Telegram channel. Volodin emphasized that this ban aims to protect the health of children. The Duma received numerous requests from parents and educators to prohibit the sale of these beverages to minors. He reiterated that the harmful effects of energy drinks on human health have been scientifically proven. Regular consumption of energy drinks can lead to serious health issues such as hypertension and diabetes.
Medical professionals confirm the health risks associated with energy drink consumption. These drinks contain stimulating components that increase physical and mental activity, with caffeine being the primary ingredient. Caffeine affects the nervous system, heart, and blood vessels, leading to increased heart rate and blood pressure.
Taurine, another common component in these drinks, also shows similar effects when present in high concentrations. Additionally, energy drinks often contain large amounts of B vitamins, which can negatively impact the blood vessels in the brain.
Doctors also warn about the high sugar content in energy drinks, which can contribute to diabetes and obesity. For those already dependent on these drinks, reducing consumption to one glass per day is advised.
