Starting June 23, a new law on the construction of early physical development centers has come into effect in Russia. The primary goal of these institutions is to identify talented and promising athletes among the young participants. The new sports centers will host children’s sports events and prepare students to meet the standards of the GTO (Ready for Labor and Defense) physical fitness program.
Support for these new organizations will come not only at the regional level but also at the federal level. Assistance will include construction and renovation support, as well as the transfer of facilities for free use and long-term leases. Federal, regional, and municipal budgets will fund the purchase of uniforms, equipment, and sports inventory.
These next-generation sports centers will enable children to engage in sports from an early age and promote a healthy lifestyle culture. Additionally, this initiative will create new job opportunities.
The first such center was opened last year in Krasnodar. It was built as part of a presidential directive to establish early physical development centers. The children’s sports complex “Become a Champion” offers several programs, including swimming, sambo, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, hand-to-hand combat, taekwondo, acrobatic rock and roll, artistic gymnastics, chess, and even e-sports.
